Update: Nissan begins build-up of Nismo GT-R for Tokachi 24-hour race
December 31st, 1969
Update: The tear-down and build-up process that will prepare the pair of Nismo GT-Rs for the Tokachi 24-hour race has begun. As the photo shows (more at the GT-R World site), the cars are being stripped back to the frame in places so that safety and performance parts can be installed. Some of the modifications include a racing fuel cell, roll cage, harnesses and a number of weight-saving replacement parts, including racing wheels and a carbon fiber trunk lid.
Original: Nissan and its official motorsports and performance division, Nismo, will enter a highly modified version of the GT-R supercar in the Tokachi 24-hour endurance race to be held on the 20th of next month. The new Nismo-prepped GT-R will be running a number of performance parts that’s soon to be available as off-the-shelf components for R35 GT-R owners.
In addition to the new Nismo parts, the unique model will also be filled with competition motor oil jointly developed with Motul. Other than that, the race car will be mostly stock standard. Behind the wheel will be Nissan’s Masami Kageyama and Tetsuya Tanaka.
Team Director Taro Kumagai said, "this is the first Nissan GT-R to race based on the standard road-car specifications. Our target is to complete the race distance, testing both the performance and reliability of the car. Following its success in Super GT, we know that GT-R fans want to see the car compete in this kind of endurance racing series.”
