Mitsubishi confirms Concept-cX for production
December 31st, 1969
Mitsubishi has today confirmed that the Concept-cX from last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show will enter production as a new compact crossover model designed to sit under the current Outlander. The new model will feature a constant AWD system and will be the showcase Mitsubishi’s environmental awareness by debuting a family of Euro-5 clean diesel engines.
The new engine is planned to have class-leading power output courtesy of a high-efficiency turbocharger and high-efficiency combustion characteristics. Some of the technologies include a variable geometry turbocharger, a diesel particulate filter and a diesel oxidation catalyst.
The base engine will be a 136hp (100kW) 1.8L four-cylinder unit churning out 206lb-ft (280Nm) of torque from a low 2,000rpm. It will be mated to the carmaker’s Twin Clutch SST gearbox and a custom AWD system.
If the production Concept-cX proves popular, re-skinned versions of the car could also be sold by French carmakers Peugeot and Citroen - just as they did with the current 4007 and C7 SUVs based on the larger Outlander.

This car may not be such a bad idea. I mean, it's ugly but it could be useful, if it has good offroad performance. And the combined fuel economy should be around 6l/100km thanks to small diesel engine and twin clutch transmission.

something Suzuki would make. Not so sure about Mitsubishi.

Mitsubishi builds dozens of off-road cars, including kei cars (Pajero Mini). Why can't they build a mini CUV?
A Peugeot 2007 based on this car would be great, as long as it looks and feels totally different. A Citroën off-roader? Never, please.
