Video: Corvette ZR1's LS9 engine assembly
December 31st, 1969
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is one of the fastest production cars to come out of GM, and at the heart of its stunning performance is the LS9 engine. Debuting in January of this year at the Detroit Motor Show, the 638hp (476kW) and 819Nm (604lb-ft) LS9 powerplant is capable of pushing the ZR1 from standstill to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds and onto a top speed of 205mph.
Below is a video of the LS9 engine being assembled from scratch - the video is sped up significantly to keep viewing time short but manages to reveal the amount of effort that goes into prepping one of these hardcore engines, and the level of detail involved in getting everything right. The observant among you will notice that the 6.2L engine is based on the LS3, rather than the LS7, due to the LS3's thicker cylinder walls that are more appropriate for the supercharged LS9.

2mins 20, does he leave something inside one of the cylinders???
By Joey #3, Posted: 7/17/2008
Dandan - The thing he leaves inside is called a piston. Its what makes the crankshaft turn when air and fuel combust inside the cylinder chamber.
