Update: New video and interior shot for 2010 Chevrolet Cruze

December 31st, 1969 Updated with new video and interior shot. Chevrolet’s Cruze global small car and eventual Cobalt replacement is drawing nearer to reality. Due for unveiling at the Paris Auto Show in October, the new small car is GM’s best bet for an attractive, efficient and affordable car in the short term. Built around the Delta 2 platform - the first GM vehicle to use the new architecture - the Cruze will be the forerunner of the replacements for many of GM’s cars, including the HHR, the Cobalt and Opel’s Zafira. The car’s exterior dimensions are expected to be almost identical to the current Cobalt’s though with its design from the ground-up as a global platform, the new Cruze will be more amenable to use in many markets, reports Edmunds. Those hoping for a hot new small sedan may be disappointed, however, as it’s expected to feature a torsion-beam rear suspension to cut costs. That means lower ultimate performance, though daily-driver handling and ride quality should be fine. The corner cutting does put the car behind the global C1-platform vehicles built by Ford including the upcoming North American 2010 Focus and the Mazda3. Power for the U.S. version is expected to come from a 1.4L turbo four-cylinder that’s good for 40mpg (5.88L/100km) on the open road, and likely to get something close to 30mpg (7.8L/100km) in city use. It’s scheduled to begin production in the U.S. in mid-2010 as a 2011 model. We now have a new interior shot of one of the test mules. Located on the steering wheel is a Daewoo badge, which suggests this particular model is the replacement for the Nubira sedan. 1. I thought that the Cobalt was a fairly new model for Chevy. Is it that bad that they need to replace it with a new model name already?!

BTW, Cruze is a very stupid name. Sounds like *cruise* but with the moronic twist of putting a Z at the end. Like hatz!

Kudos to Chevy for putting independent turn signals in the back. Was that so f---ing hard?!

  2. what independant turning signals

  3. I am actually liking the looks of this car. I was afraid that we would see a smaller version of the Malibu, which is not a bad thing, just not that original. The back end has some character and shows some creative engergy at work. Does anyone expect this to translate well into a coupe? With both Chevy and Pontiac using the Cobalt Coupe right now, I would expect there to continue to be a coupe in the future. Although I do remember Pontiac saying the G5 Coupe was a stop-gap until they come out with their own dedicated coupe.

  4. Like the milage they are saying for the car, and hope the SS version stays, just doubt the ride will be as good as the global Ford version, but this is also supposed to spawn many body variants like the Ford platform.

  5. The "Cruze" works.

  6. independent rear turn signal means that the turn signal on the rear of the car is amber and therefore does not use the brake light as a rear turn signal lamp. Maybe it might appear in the US, since the photos shown has a European license plate, who knows. It kind of does look like a mini Malibu, though it does not look too bad. Though I think they change the name in attempt to reimage the brand. Though I was okay with the Cavalier name to begin with, my opinion.

  7. honda accord tail lights with a traverse front end and malibu body

  8. Hector, just because the Cobalt's predecessor, the Cavalier, was introduced shortly after Ford discontinued the Model T and the Cav was approaching its bi-centennial, or at least if seemed like that. The Cobalts been out 4 years? Time for a mid-cycle redo pending replacement in 2010/11.

Besides the Cobalt was conceived as a cheap CAFE beater to allow GM to build lots of trucks. The market has changed with buyers turning to smaller fuel efficient cars, but they still want comfort and quality.

  9. So far it's looking like a sharp offering in it's class. The torsion-beam rear axle is a little disappointing, but then again, this is an economy car, for the masses, and lower on the food-chain than other offerings, but likely can be optioned out with higher trim-levels.

One thing - the 1.4L turbo-four, is this a base engine only, or will other, more powerful engines be offered in higher editions? A 140hp turbo-4 seems rather puny, and the current Cobalt has more powerful mills under it's hood. I do hear of a DI 2.3L four coming up in the base Equinox, with decent power numbers for a four-banger, will this also find it's way into the Cruize?

Does anybody know any info regarding the Cruize's engine offerings?

  10. WTF is wrong with this name, Definition: n. 1. A gallant or chivalrous man, especially one serving as escort to a woman of high social position; a gentleman. 2. A mounted soldier; a knight! That definition is for the only American "Compact" (commonly incorrectly called a Sub) to ever sell at the top for 23 years (Even without the General properly redesigning it regularly) I'm speaking for "The Cavalier" a car with a fan base multi million strong (though I seem to be the only one speaking for it) I mean think about it, thats a great worldly name. The new car should have been called Cavalier in homage to the original 82-94 back when the 4 door looked like it had a BMW roof line. The car was even sold in Europe at high sales (Vauxhall Cavalier MK2) ruled the UK in sales back then. Now I know that was when the cars design was new, but as stated earlier the General didn't properly redesign it regularly and was still a leader. That don't mean its not a great name and/or doesn't deserve a re imaging. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in and stand up for a little car I'm quite fond of, I was really hopeful when the new car had no name. Well I can still hope for a different better platform down the line maybe something rear drive!

  11. Least this car is better looking then the Cobalt.

  12. By the way, if that is an interior shot of the Cruze, why is the steering wheel have a Daewoo logo.
