Opel Insignia 'Sports Tourer' to join hatch & sedan at Paris Motor Show

Update: The much-anticipated Opel Insignia will debut a new station wagon variant at this October’s Paris Motor Show, where it will join the previous sedan and hatchback versions of the upcoming car. Dubbed the 'Opel Insignia Sports Tourer,' the new station wagon carries the stylish design of its siblings but features all new sheet metal from the B-pillar back.

The car manages to maintain the same look as the other variants by pulling its “wraparound” tailgate far into the flanks and accentuating it with a pair of unique tail lights. While the Sports Tourer retains the same wheelbase as the sedan, the rear hatch brings the vehicle’s overall length up to 4.91m and boosts storage space up to 540 liters.

Two new engines will also debut with the wagon, a compact turbocharged petrol engine and a new diesel unit. These will join the five engines announced at the debut of the sedan, all of which meet Euro 5 emissions standards and come with either manual or automatic six-speed transmissions.

The wagon also features a newly developed chassis, and can be optioned with GM’s FlexRide adapative suspension, AWD traction, as well as the previously announced front camera safety feature.

Original: General Motors Europe has confirmed that it’s all-new Opel (Vauxhall) Insignia hatchback will join its sedan sibling at this month’s London Motor Show, where pricing for both cars will also be announced. Side by side, the two vehicles look almost the same and both share the same 2,737mm wheelbase and 4,830mm overall length.

Like the sedan, the hatchback will also be available with five engines at launch. All meet Euro 5 emissions standards and come with either manual or automatic six-speed transmissions. The three petrol engines range from a four-cylinder 140hp (104kW) unit to a V6 with 260hp (194kW). Two new 2.0L direct-injection diesel engines will be offered with power outputs of either 110hp (82kW) or 160hp (119kW). In time, the Insignia engine lineup will be extended with an EcoFLEX version offering ultra-low CO2 emissions in addition to other, more powerful variants.

GM has also confirmed the new Insignia will be available with its FlexRide active suspension set-up and a new ‘Adaptive’ AWD system, as well as the previously announced front camera safety feature.

First sales will start towards the end of the year.
