GM reveals production CTS Coupe in viability presentation

December 31st, 1969 Just as Chrysler previewed its next-gen 300 sedan and Jeep Grand Cherokee in its viability plan submitted to the U.S. Treasury today, General Motors, too, in its own plan, revealed the final design of the upcoming Cadillac CTS Coupe. Apart from this official image, the only other details revealed were that the CTS Coupe would enter production at the start of next year at the company’s Lansing plant in Michigan. The viability plan also revealed that the CTS Coupe would be available with a 3.6L V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission. As expected, the production CTS Coupe is almost identical the concept version unveiled at last year’s Detroit Auto Show. The Coupe’s front-end is shared with the CTS Sedan but the rear quarters are all-new and the doors feature the same touch-pad releases as used by the Corvette. The rear of the coupe will be dominated by a centrally mounted exhaust stack, tall vertical lamps and an almost flat rear window. Other important details revealed in the viability plan include plans for a dual-clutch transmission, a new range of four-cylinder petrol engines, and additional extended range vehicles such as the Opel Ampera and Cadillac Converj by 2012. Further down the track GM also plans to launch a new hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain and a more advanced third-generation hybrid system.Cadillac CTS Coupe2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe

  1. Beautiful design, well done cadillac!

  2. I love the coupe, if the wagon looks and handlles as well as its siblings will do well in Europe

  3. I love this car, I really hope a V-series version with the supercharged V8 is true, that car will be fantastic.

  4. Is it me.. maybe I'm wrong.. btu they said "NO PHOTOS" at this event

But isn't this the CTS coupe in the background of this youtube video?

I could be TOTALLY wrong here..

  5. This is the ONLY badge that has any chance for GM to succeed~period! For reals, GM cannot survive and should know that hybridization of their vehicles can only do wonders, not to mention for the environment also. No on Global Warming~and dat's real!

  6. If one of my kids designed this I would think it was fabulous. I'm sure the interior will be rich and sumptuous. I would be comparing the Cadillac CTS coupe with a two year old Mercedes S class coupe. But plenty of people in this segment would only buy new.

Appearance... Well it looks like it's right off the drawing board - stylized like a pencil sketch. Jack 'O Lantern mouth, pen-stroke/knife slash windows. It' easy to be an arm chair critic though.

Low roof line and high door sills promise claustrophobia. It's what I didn't like about sitting in the similarly styled Hyundai Tiburon. Abrams A-1 accommodation. Heads up display? Of course - you're going to need it.

I might have said, "Good start. But lets take what you have there, and design it from the inside out."
