Volkswagen Passat CC Gold Coast Edition debuts at Pebble Beach
December 31st, 1969
The special edition Volkswagen Passat CC Gold Coast was unveiled over the weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and is set to arrive in U.S. showrooms towards the end of the year. The car comes with a special grille and premium tri-coat paint finish with a mix of gold, brown and silver tones.
Other features include a new spoiler and 19in propeller style wheels. Inside, the car is outfitted with four ergonomically formed sport seats wrapped in leather, a three-color combination of Latte Macchiatto (no, we are not making these names up) and Cornsilk with Bronze Piping on the seats and matching accents on the dash and door trim.
Despite its faltering car market and presently weak economy, VW will need to boost sales in the U.S. if it hopes to rival Toyota in the sales race as promised by CEO Martin Winterkorn. That should be made somewhat easier with the CC’s debut, because the CC sedan is expected to be one of the first VW model in years to be more popular in the U.S. than anywhere else. VW marketing chief Detlef Wittig has said the company expects 60% of CC sales will be in the U.S. alone, and production of the car is expected to top 300,000 units over the next seven years.
U.S. models will miss out on a number of luxury items that will debut in European spec model to ensure the car’s price tag remains affordable - which is most certainly will be.
The CC will come standard in the U.S. with a 2.0L TSI engine with 200hp (147kW) and 207lb-ft of torque, available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Available optionally is the flagship 3.6L FSI, rated at 280hp (206kW) and 266lb-ft of torque. The 3.6L FSI comes standard with the six-speed Tiptronic transmission. Other markets will feature a base 160hp (105kW) 1.8L: TSI model and two diesel variants developing 140 (90kW) and 170hp (110kW) respectively.
The Gold Coast edition debuted at the Pebble Beach event gets the 3.6L TFSI engine, equipped with a six-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox with Tiptronic. The standard CC comes to U.S. market in the fourth quarter of 2008, with a starting price under $27,000.

I don't want to pay the price for a new one and I fear what I would get if I bought a used one. Not a bad looking car but I don't see myself behind the wheel of one.

Ridiculous!
The 2.0 litre TSI version costs 112.000 US dollars where I am. :(

If VW claim this pretentious family econobox has anything coupe about it, then I hope it fails miserably.

Wish VW would speed up the American replacments for their line up, and fix their image of reliability.

Totally and completely bland. I say this based on the fact that one was parked next to a Nissan GTR at Laguna Seca earller today (behind it as you approached from the side) and virtually no one noticed it as they approached the two cars but they almost broke their necks on the double take to see the Nissan. Sad really as looking through the window the interior appeared very well put together.

mwow... you're talking about a family sedan parked next to one of the most highly anticipated cars of the decade. your point is moot.
i don't get why you are all saying this car is ugly and boring.. would you prefer a camry? fusion? malibu? accord? actually the new accord is pretty nice.. and the malibu isn't bad for significantly less.. but as far as styling? on the street this thing will turn heads.
the gold edition? gaudy. simply put.

The base Passat CC is going to start under $27,000, *not* the Gold Coast Edition.
By Chris #8, Posted: 8/19/2008
inspired, i realize that it will be cheaper than 27 grand,.. but it sure as hell wont be undercutting the malibu at 19k

Chris- Not moot at all! As you approched the CC you could not see the Nissan as it was parked behind the VW.
What I'm getting at is the VW coupe is just plain old bland. I remember seeing the CLS for the first time and my reaction when I see one today is still the same " what a great piece of disign".. The VW is not exciting nor does it stand out. Which is not good considering four door coupes are suppose to be the next big thing in making the sedan exciting again......
There is no way this car will turn heads in public when it cant even garner the attention of attendees at one of the worlds largest automotive events. They had it parked right at the lot next to the foot bridge as you walk into the paddock.

Chris, my point was actually in reference to the original title of this thread, which indicated that the GC edition was priced at $27k. That's actually the base price of the base Passat; pricing for the GC hasn't been announced yet.
Still loving my CC!
