Video: Dodge Viper ACR laps Nurburgring in 7m 22s?
December 31st, 1969
A new Nurburgring record has allegedly tumbled with a video showcasing the Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR circling the arduous track in just 7m 22.1s. While the source of the video is far from official, if the time proves accurate then this track-honed Viper is quicker around the track than the likes of the Nissan GT-R, which posted a time of 7m 29s, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, which posted a time of 7m 26.4s, and even the Pagani Zonda F supercar, which has run an unofficial time of 7m 23s. Follow the jump to watch the video.

Someone's hitting the rev limiter quite a bit.

Someday production cars will do this in 5 minutes flat.
Crazy stuff.
Now, the question is, and I know this sounds crass from an enthusiast, how comfortable is this car? If it's basically a stripped down race car which breaks your spine over every pebble and needs new tires every ten feet, then it's no comparison to the GT-R and ZR-1...

What's the big deal? This car has been over modified and remodified so much that its barely a street car now. The GTR, ZR-1 and Pagani are all factory - stock. surprised that they might compare a F1 car to the GTR around the ring. What's the point???

i agree with all three of you. especilaly about that rev limiter thing...

Irving / James: He's hitting the rev-limiter because, in most cases, he's coming up on lower speed turns. It's quicker to let the revs bounce rather than up shift a gear and then have to immediately kick it down 2.
Gus/Andrew: The Zonda and ZR-1 basically went through the same modifications as this Viper. While it does use a more in your face aero package, Dodge is making no more mod's to this car than GM or Pagani are doing to theirs.
Additionally, I don't see many people complaining about the GT3 RS, the Superleggera's, or the upcomming V-Spec.
I think we all should celebrate the fact that these vehicles are in production and not getting caught up in this versus that.

This Viper must be the hardcore package that lost 80 lbs over the stock SRT10. Made it go from 3424 lbs. down to about 3344. On the other hand, the Z06 weighs in at
3162 lbs. and the ZR1 weighs approx. 3350 lbs. Got some junk in the trunk. I'm sure the ZR1 could get that ricer wing on the back of the hood and its lap time would be drastically different. The Stig could not handle the Koenigsegg CCX on Top Gear and suggested a wing on the back - made a huge difference.

back of the car i mean

You can purchase the ACR versiion as an option just as you can purchase the ZR1 version of the vette, both are "stock" from the factory. There was considerable engineering that went into that "Ricer" wing if you have read the Viper engineering team's report on the development of the new ACR. Great video!

man you guys that are hating crack me up. It is a stock car period. do any of you know what ACR even stands for? American Club Racer look it up, this car is underrated as far as horsepower I do believe that there is an article that states that it actually has 642 hp and 600 lb feet of tourque and this is achieved by motor no Turbo or supercharger. I can tell alot of you have never owned a car with real power.
