The S tronic dual-clutch gearbox offers quicker acceleration and improved fuel-economy over the standard manual

Audi’s recently facelifted S3 range is now available with the carmaker’s S tronic dual-clutch transmission, offering quicker acceleration and better fuel-economy than the standard six-speed transmission.

The S tronic reduces the time required to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h for the S3 by two-tenths of a second compared to the manual model. More specifically, it takes the S3 just 5.5 seconds to complete the dash, while the four-door Sportback is one-tenth of a second behind at 5.6 seconds.

At the same time, fuel consumption for the S3 has improved to 28.3mpg (8.3L/100km) with CO2 emissions of just 193g/km. The S3 Sportback measures in at 28mpg (8.4L/100km) and 195g of CO2 per km.

The 2.0L TFSI engine has remained untouched, still developing a peak output of 265hp (195kW) and 258lb-ft (350Nm) of torque. The cars are now on sale in Europe priced at €38,900 for the S3 and €39,800 for the S3 Sportback. U.S. availability is yet to be announced, however you can read about the standard 2009 A3 models, which are available, by clicking here.
