I have a 1997 VW Golf. It makes a very loud squealing noise when I turn the wheel b4 car is moving. Why?
- Power steering fluid low, belt needs tightening, belt needs to be replaced. I just had my 97 Jetta do the exact same thing and put in 8 oz of fluid and sprayed belt dressing on the belt. Problem fixed! Read More

- try checking the power steering fluid. if the fluid is not low most likely your power steering belt is loose and needs to be adjusted. Reference:vw cert. tech ase cert. tech
- because your not suppose to turn the wheel when its not moving try to lets it glide a little bit before turning
- I had a similar problem with my 99 Lexus. I went down and bought a $3.00 bottle of power steering fluid and added about half a bottle and with in 1 day the sqeeling was gone. give that a try.
