The Genesis scored five stars for both front and side-impact ratings, reflecting the built-in safety of the car's chassis as well as the standard equipment safety features like eight airbags and electronic active head restraints. Other features that contribute to the car's safety include standard stability control and brake-assist with electronic brake-force distribution.
Hyundai is particularly proud of its electronic active head restraint system, which it says puts the Genesis on par with offerings from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus - the only other car makers to offer similar systems as standard equipment on some models. The technology has been proven by the IIHS to help reduce the likelihood of whiplash in an accident.
The body shell of the Genesis itself is also credited with much of the rating, with its ultra-high tensile steel, laser welding and advanced adhesive bonding construction techniques combining to form a light yet strong frame around the occupants.
Earlier this week, news broke that Hyundai could be considering the new Tau 5.0L V8 for its Genesis sedan as a step toward evening the playing field with its German and Japanese competition.

ok.. so basically this car is a genesis in every way except for the one way that pisses me off about hyundai... the fact that they're styled piece-meal from the competition.
at least those who will be cheap enough to flash off their no-name korean ripoff 7 series / S-class wont have to worrying about dying as much.

Not sneaky just good planning and 5 stars is a good as it gets. Toyota only got 4 for the front test.

Woa there Chris, seems you just have overall hatred for the H company or are completely biased based on the past.
H is dumping so much money into the Genesis platform its not even funny, I truly hope it works out for them as this is a real step up in the brand. Looks..hmm.. I'll say it looks understated without being bland, thats my opinion. They're not aiming for 18 year old flashy boy racers with this car, thats what the Genesis coupe is for and both fit the bill in each category.

The engine and safety department did their jobs extremely well..
I don't care how conservative the designs are. Designs similar to other brands is a business plan but i don't know...Even though I'm korean, .I still think its too bland. Even the concept was better than this. Don't you agree?

I find it humorous that Lexus and Infinity launched both their new luxury cars at the sametime back in late 1988/1989. In terms of styling Nissan went for its own statement and Toyota a sort of smoothed out Merc.
The sales winner and by a very big margin was Lexus. So I find Hyundai's choice of design a very intelligent one and extremly smart. It also speaks volumes about American culture and as a whole Americans are extremely boring/safe when it comes to design.
In Chris's words Americans "will be cheap enough to flash off their no-name korean ripoff 7 series/S-class."
I would not be surpirsed if Hyundai has a plan to become the Mercedes of North America having an entry level A-Series all the way through to a halo super car costing the average price of a home. If the Germans want to sit around and lose then that is their fault and nothing but good business planning by the Koreans.
Chris- I fail to understand your ignorance or hatred towards Hyundai but scoring a 5 in both frontal imact and side imact testing is a phenomoal achievement and hardly a fluke. These guys did their home work.
May I suggest you go work for Mercedes and help them out or from a financial stand point get a sales position at your local Hyundai dealer.
P.S. That ship your precious little Merc arrived on in Baltimore, MD was most likely powered by an Hyundai power plant and I dont hear to many news stories of commercial ships running aground due to engine failure.

I cannot wait to see how this thing does. I predict sales & success along the lines of the Avalon but those true luxury buyers are not going to want a Hyundai ... chilling in the service waiting room w/ others waiting for their Accents.

Hedorah- The issue you raise is no different than an A-series customer wiating for an oil change why Mr. Captain of Industry is waiting for the service on his SLR to be completed.
