GM opens new design studio in India

As more and more car makers are beginning to realize, India is one of the biggest emerging markets for automobiles. Vijay Mallya’s Force India Formula 1 team is getting ready to start its first season in the world’s premier motorsport series. Porsche is considering moving some of its production to India. Two Indian firms are the leading bidders in the purchase of Land Rover and Jaguar. So perhaps it’s no surprise that GM has opened its first design studio in India.

Video: AC Schnitzer’s gas-powered 3-series at Nardo

The Nardo track is a high-speed circuit where cars from around the world come to test their top-speed capabilities. It even plays host to a tuner showdown each year. AC Schnitzer’s GP3.10 gas-powered is no stranger to the Nardo track, as we’ve covered before. But this time you can see the action and ride along as the BMW 3-series based GP3.10 sets the speed record for gas-powered vehicles. Video after the jump.

Edo Competition Murcielago LP 640 Versione Nardo

Each year the world’s top tuners take to Italy’s Nardo high-speed test track to find out which is the fastest. This year’s round included a diverse range of exotics as well as few odd choices, including a Maybach saloon and the fastest of the pack, a twin-engined Audi TT. However, one car stood out from the field as the most exclusive and sinister-looking, the Edo Competition prepped Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 Versione Nardo.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster by Brabus

The Mercedes SLR is one car not in need of an upgrade but that hasn’t stopped the guys at Brabus from increasing the car’s performance to the level of the world’s top supercars. To minimize lift on the front axle, designers developed a front spoiler that attaches to the production bumper. The spoiler is made from exposed carbon fiber and its shape was fine-tuned in the wind tunnel. A corresponding rear diffuser made from exposed carbon fiber can be added as an option.

Nissan Forum concept interior sketch

Nissan has given us a preview of the interior of its upcoming Forum Concept car, scheduled to be displayed at next month’s Detroit Auto Show. The design focus for developers was to create a concept that explored the next-generation of family transportation but in a cool way instead of heading down the boring Minivan path.

Video: Toyota simulator in action

Toyota has created a life size driving simulator to analyze driver behavior under different conditions such as drowsiness or illness, and to help develop active safety technology for reducing the number of accidents. A real car sits inside the simulator dome, which features a 360-degree screen to simulate real driving roads. Follow the jump to watch a video of the simulator in action.

Alonso spends day at Honda factory, has seat fitting

Fernando Alonso spent an entire day at Honda’s Brackley factory this week and even had a seat fitting, reports from Germany on Thursday said. Sport Bild claims that the double world champion, who is still yet to commit to a team for 2008 after splitting with McLaren, is ‘nearing an agreement’ with the Japanese outfit that recently tabbed Ross Brawn as its new team boss.

Bugatti driving school for Veyron owners

In a move that we’d like to see common to all supercar makers - if only to avoid having to see scenes like these - Bugatti is now offering a driving course for all Veyron owners. The school is held on the Anneau du Rhin track located near Colmar, which hugs France’s border with Luxembourg.

2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 pricing starts at $37,995

The flagship model of the remade Dodge Challenger, the new high-performance SRT8, will be priced from $37,995 when it goes on pre-order from December 3 onwards. The first batch of cars will be a limited edition run, each with a numbered dash plaque, and will be available in black, silver or HEMI orange. First deliveries will start next spring.

Tesla Motors names new CEO

Tesla Motors gets a new CEO from December 3 onwards in the form of Silicon Valley pioneer Ze’ev Drori. Back in August Tesla founder and current CEO Martin Eberhard stepped down from the top job in order to concentrate more on technology and development.

Abt Audi R8 at the Essen Motor Show

Unique Performance files for bankruptcy

Unique Performance, the Texas-based muscle car manufacturer accused of ‘title washing,’ has shutdown operations and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. This comes just ten days after Dallas police were forced to investigate the operations following several complaints from customers.
